What size collar does my dog need?
All of our collars are adjustable but its important that you choose the correct size collar for your dog, so for the perfect fit we recommend taking a soft/flexible tape measure and measure your dogs neck. The size dog collar you choose should be able to adjust up and down from their neck size for the perfect fit.
If you dog's neck size happens to fall to either the Maximum or Minimum length of one of the sizes we offer we recommend selecting a collar size like this...
- An adult dog with a 38cm neck could wear either a 'Medium' or a 'Large'.
- But for a puppy with a 38cm neck a size 'Large' would be better, so that there is room to grow into the collar.
What type of collar is best for my dog?
We offer a number of different styles of collar. Slip type collars are great for dogs who pull a lot on the lead offering better control and the classic side release buckle collars are great for dogs who pull less on a lead.
Plastic Buckle:
Our classic black side release buckle collars utilise a strong contoured 'anti freeze' buckle. These high quality buckles have a breaking load of 200lb.
* Recommended for light to moderate pullers
Metal Cobra Style Buckle:
Cobra style buckles are very strong military grade metal side release buckles. They are known for being one of the strongest buckles available. Often used in the military and law enforcement because of their strength and reliability. They are incredibly strong having a breaking load of nearly 2000lbs!
* Recommended for extremely heavy pullers
Limited Slip:
Our limited slip collars are designed for dogs who can easily slip or back out of their collars or dogs who pull a lot on the lead. When properly fitted if the dog pulls, the loop piece tightens enough to prevent the collar from slipping over the head, but not enough to choke or damage the dogs neck.
Both the Limited Slip and Martingale collars work in a similar way. They essentially allow the collar to tighten when pulled. The difference between the two is how the 'loop' (slip part) is constructed. The Limited Slip loop pulls more off to the side when pulled and the Martingale pulls more upward.
* Recommended for light to heavy pullers or dogs who try and slip out of their collars
Fabric Martingale:
The martingale collar works in a similar way to the limited slip collar but is constructed slightly differently. They are great for dogs who try and slip out of their collars and also offer more control when lead training. The martingale collar is made with two loops. One main loop which fits around your dogs neck and can be adjusted and the second is for control where the lead is attached. When the dog pulls or a ‘correction’ is made, the collar tightens without damaging the neck. Then when the tension is released, the collar loosens again.
* Recommended for light to heavy pullers or dogs who try and slip out of their collars
Note: If ordering one of the ‘slip type collars’ such as the martingale or the limited slip make sure the size you choose will fit over your dog's head and leave enough room for the slip part to tighten snuggly.
